Cyndi Dorsett on the Perfect Health Retreat

Cyndi Dorsett, of Palestine Texas, was a guest at the October 2014 Perfect Health Retreat. Cyndi kindly recorded a video for us discussing her experience at the retreat.

Some highlights:

  • “I’m having such a good time I don’t want to leave.”
  • “The food is delicious, and it’s easy to prepare…. I’m never hungry, the staff has been wonderful, they’re very helpful, very patient.”
  • “This place is gorgeous.… You couldn’t have asked for a better setting…. The setting is peaceful. It’s conducive to this whole diet and regime. No stress.”
  • “I’ve really enjoyed it.”
  • “I’ve been trying to lose weight all my life…. With this one, I was going to approach it in a different way, for my health, not just for weight loss. But I have found my clothes are fitting a little looser…. I’m not hungry. We have the fast. After our evening meal, we fast for 16 hours. I wake up, I’m never hungry…. I don’t eat as much, and yet I’m full. That whole concept there is worth being here.”
  • “I’m tired of my doctors telling me I’m going to get these health problems…. I want to get better and enjoy my old age. I retired to have fun, not to be under a doctor’s care.”
  • “Paul is very helpful with the classes, and informative.”
  • “Cooking classes were very good…. I may never go out to eat again…. The food was phenomenal, and it’s not anything that anybody couldn’t do.”
  • “I don’t feel like I’m dieting, I don’t feel like I’m eating health food, but I am.”
  • “I would definitely recommend the retreat to anybody interested in better health and losing weight…. Better health especially, because that’s more important than anything.”

Thank you Cyndi!

  1. Awesome, thanks for posting this! Just curious, what times are the 2 daily meals served at the PHD retreat?

  2. Dear Paul,
I truly hope that you can take a few minutes and give me a bit of insight as to my question I am asking you here. Not too long ago I noticed a reply from you to someone regarding swollen ankles and legs pertaining to adrenal and/or kidney dysfunction and that cherry tomatoes and salt prior to bed and upon waking would help a a lot.

I have been doing this religiously for the past 2 weeks with a drastic improvement in my symptoms however things are still not perfect. As far as the diet side of things, I still focus on saturated fats, mainly butter and coconut oil/butter and then follow your other recommendations to a T except that I do place a bit more emphasis on carbohydrates since I spent about 4 years of my life under eating not only calories in general but specifically carbohydrates, and over exercising in cross fit style workouts. I also drank WAY too much coffee and smoked cigarettes since I was 18 years old. I turned 28 a few months ago.

My main question to you is, as far as the swollen ankles and legs and the pressure it causes on my foot (specifically my left foot from a prior injury years ago) is the tomato/salt combo just something I need to do for longer to alleviate all of the issue or is there something else I can be doing in order to help with this process?

It just frustrates me because it hinders me from exercising which is something I truly do miss. I am getting good sleep now however I still wake up at least once to pee in the middle of the night which I know is an issue I am not sure how to handle. I quit smoking close to a year ago. I have had a few bad days and caved and had a cigarette but have never made a habit out of it again. In the past year I have had maybe 4.

I hope you can give me a bit of insight as to what might be going on with me and exactly how to fix it. I truly appreciate your time and your book is amazing. Your knowledge on lifestyle and diet is truly groundbreaking.

    • Hi Andrew,

Have you consulted a doctor? It could be a kidney issue, it could be a vascular issue, it could be an adrenal issue. Be sure you get regular activity and spend time with weight off your feet (i.e. don’t use a standing desk).

      • Thank you for your reply Paul, I have one final question. If I did consult a doctor what would be a good indicator as to if it was a kidney or vascular issue and what steps do you think would be appropriate for me to take. I am sorry for all of the questions but I truly value your opinion on the subject and feel that your approach to the issue would be way more valuable to me then a conventional doctor. I do currently have health insurance but only catastrophic( my jobs health insurance is too expensive) so I will have to most likely pay out of pocket for anything involving one. Again, thank you for your time.

        • Varicose veins or clotting symptoms would be indications of a vascular issue. Sleep issues such as 3 am waking would point more toward adrenals. I am not knowledgeable about how doctors would approach your case.
