Hello Luke!

I’m happy to introduce a new PHDer: Luke Jaminet arrived in the world last Wednesday and has been getting plenty of sleep ever since. Here he is:

Luke sleeping age 3 days

For the first time since his birth Mom and Dad got a little sunshine and relaxation yesterday:

Luke-Mom-Dad age 3 days

We chose the name because Luke was Paul’s companion.

Luke has been long awaited and so far, much enjoyed. Welcome Luke!

  1. What wonderful news … I’m happy for you both!! I’m also looking to hear more about disruptions to your circadian cycles over the next few weeks ;).

    • While it doesn’t eliminate all sleep challenges, the combination of nursing and co-sleeping sure makes life much easier for our family of six and growing.

  2. Congratulations! Fantastic news and what a wondrous gift of life!

  3. We are beyond thrilled for you! There is no greater blessing in life. And as a great pediatrician once said to a mother of a newborn who called him every fifteen minutes with a question, “Madam, you have given birth to a child. You have set yourself up for a lifetime of worry. Pace yourself.”
    Warmly,
    Peggy and Herb

  28. Paul, are you aware of attachment theory? Proper attachment nourishment should be part of every baby’s perfect health diet!
Congratulations to you both, he already looks very bright ^^ And if you care to look into it, Diane Poole Heller has a great online program on the vegetable oils and wheat of parenting… highly recommend.

  43. What a beautiful – and lucky – little boy! Heartiest congratulations! 🙂

  44. Congratulations to you both! Luke’s a real cutey. Many new Moms here in Taiwan have a one-month period of special postpartum care called 坐月子 (zuòyuèzi). Is Shou-Ching going to do something similar? I used to regard it as mostly traditional Chinese woo, but now I think the concept of getting sufficient rest and recuperation after childbirth, even up to a whole month, makes a lot of sense.

  45. Best wishes! Welcome Luke!

  46. Wow! Congratulations to all!

  47. Many many congratulations! Children are a great gift. Something I meditate on a lot with respect to mine is Psalm 127:4: “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth”. Our children are really our best shot at influencing the world when we are gone – like arrows that we can shoot into the future. Eventually we have to let them go, but we can do our best to aim them in the right direction. You have both had such a positive impact on so many lives through sharing your knowledge and experience, wishing you luck with one of your most important tasks in this world!

  48. What a joy! I didn’t know a little one was on his way to you! Congratulations, love and blessings!

  49. Congratulations Paul and Shou-Ching! What a blessing – for both of you AND Luke. He’s a lucky little boy. I wish you great joy!Thinking of you and wishing you well for all that lies ahead!

  50. Congrats to both if you! Look forward to hearing how having a child affects the PHD lifestyle. What a joy!
