New Podcast, Facebook Group, and Commenting System

Evan Brand is an interesting young man who tries to spread the gospel of natural living at Not Just Paleo. We met at PaleoFX and have now done a podcast: Check it out here.

In case you missed it, earlier this month I had a great conversation with Pete Cohen, the Weight Loss Guru. He’s based in the UK and it was a pleasure to talk to him, especially as we put the finishing touches on the UK edition of our book. That podcast is here.

Next, something new: Caressa Santella Neary has set up a Perfect Health Diet Facebook group. It’s become so active in just a few days that I can’t keep up with posts, but I can tell you it’s a great group of people. If you go to the group page you’ll find a “Join Group” link in the upper right.

Finally, something on its way: Thanks to help from Wout Mertens (thanks Wout!), we’re exploring a move to Livefyre as a commenting system. This is one step in a general effort to have better integration to social media including Twitter and Facebook, an improved ability to search comments, faster page loading, and a better experience on mobile devices like phones.

This post will provide an opportunity to test out the new system. Give the new comment system a try on this post and let me know your thoughts!

  1. Yes! Faster page loading and better search capability are most welcome.

  2. you said the Japanese eat a ton of rice. Does not appear to be the case based on this:
Today each Japanese consumes, on average, about 60kg of rice a year, roughly half the amount of the early 1960s
The above is from Dec,17, 2009 article in The Economist.
By my calculation that is only about 6oz per day; it is hardly a ton. Be interested in seeing contrary data, if any

  3. All sounds good! Commenting system should be fun.

  4. Testing, testing. 😛

  5. I like the emotions you have here 😆 enjoying your new commenting 😛

  6. I like Livefyre’s “@” functionality. It focused on building a strong community. I think there is no other commenting platform with that feature.

    • Hi steve,

Was the “ton” statement on the podcast? I don’t recall either the statement or the podcast.

I haven’t looked up the Economist article, but if it refers to uncooked rice, then 6 oz per day corresponds to 18 oz cooked rice. PHD recommends 16 oz safe starches per day, probably not more than half from white rice.

So if 6 oz refers to cooked white rice, which I doubt, then the Japanese are consuming PHD levels of white rice now and were consuming more than that fifty years ago.

If it refers to uncooked rice, then they are today consuming more than double the amount of rice we would recommend.

  8. Faster page loading is always beneficial but I am glad you ultimately decided to stick with wordpress. I think the layout you have doesn’t necessarily need all of the extras that come with livefyre. It was worth a try though. Thanks for keeping your readers in mind. Have a great week!
